Plum Sangria Spritzer

May 2, 2014 Leave a Comment

This is my favorite sangria recipe.  Just in time for that Cinco de Mayo party or weekend barbecue:).  It is especially good to have on hand during prune plum season at the end of summer but regular plums will do more than just fine:).

The past few years my husband and I have been going down to the Jersey shore to visit friends and this is the recipe that is requested; and one batch is never enough. So of course I had to test out the recipe before we went down there this year, nevermind the fact that our trip this year is still 2 months away:).

This recipe is also super simple to make, so pull out that pitcher and raise a glass… this drink is worth cheering to!

Plum Sangria Spritzer Recipe

Ingredients:
6 sliced plums
1 cup of granulated sugar
1 cup of water
1 bottle of red wine
A few splashes of seltzer

Directions:
1.  To make the simple syrup combine the cup of sugar, water and sliced plums in a saucepan and bring to a boil.  Stir occasionally.  You will know you are done when the sugar granules are completely dissolved in the water.
2.  Cool the simple syrup.
3.  Combine the simple syrup and bottle of wine.  Refrigerate.  I recommend doing this step the night before as it really allows the plums and sugar to flavor the wine (and vice versa!).
4.  When ready to serve, add a few splashes of seltzer to your tastebud’s content.
5.  Cheers!
