Emma’s Ice Cream Birthday Party

September 16, 2014 Leave a Comment

While I was pregnant I realized there were two types of kid 1st birthday parties…ones for adults and ones for kids.  I wanted to try and bridge that gap and host a 1st birthday for Emma that was fun for adults and kids alike.  Soooo, I decided that an ice cream party would be the perfect theme for this mission.  I mean who doesn’t like ice cream?

All in all I think it was a success and both kids and adults had a blast.  At least I know myself and the birthday girl did:)

Below are some photos from the day taken by my amazing sister-in-law Christine…

Shot of the cake topper on Emma’s cake…might you ask…did Emma have a white headband and blue seersucker dress?  And the answer would be…Of course!:

The funfetti cake itself with vanilla buttercream…(I used the vanilla cake recipe from her baptism and just added a cup of sprinkles).  I am loving the forks too:)

The sugar cookies shaped like mini ice cream cones.  I used my sugar cookie recipe then used edible markers to draw on the faces and topped with some sprinkles.

And of course the ice cream!  We got the ice cream from a local creamery that we love.  While I enjoy making my own ice cream I think I would have driven myself (and my husband) crazy if I decided to make the ice cream as well….

I made two photo projects to commemorate Emma’s first year.  The first project was of the monthly “photo-shoots” I did with Emma that I taped onto a chalkboard:

The second AND favorite photo project, was the best pictures of her throughout the past year shaped into one big ONE!

The favors.  I used wooden spoons and stamped each child’s name on their favor.  Inside I had ice cream themed favors…ice cream shaped bubbles, ice cream themed rubber duckies, and play dough, ice cream themed removable tattoos and mini erasers for the big kiddos!

For my own personal sanity I probably should have stopped with the home-made decorations after the photo projects but of course that is just not my style:).  Below is a picture of one of the ice cream “men” on the ice cream garland I made:

And last but not least the flower centerpieces on the tables outside.  Note the old-fashioned ice cream cups!

Happy Birthday Emma!!  xoxo
