Chocolate Pretzel Trees!

December 23, 2014 Leave a Comment

2 days until Christmas!! TWO!!  Craziness!! This past month flew by!! And what an AMAZING month it was… in fact, it was one of my favorite months if not THE favorite month of my year.  I love Christmas so much that I like to think of Christmas as a month long celebration that culminates on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day…that way the 25th doesn’t seem as much of a blur and whirlwind.

Throughout the month we host family and friends to celebrate this wonderful season and holiday (as many people do!).   Last weekend, we had our neighbors over and I needed a quick treat to round out my cookie plate….these Chocolate Christmas Trees were perfect…they were easy to make, delicious AND the kiddos loved them.

If you have children around looking to help out, these are also perfect for them…younger ones can help decorate with sprinkles and older kiddos can even help make the chocolate trees.

I saw a few versions on Pinterest that used pretzel rods; but I wanted a smaller version that is more of a bite size treat; so I used pretzel sticks.  But, either works…you would just need to make your trees a bit bigger if you are using the rods.  Or you could change it up and do a variety of sizes.  They would also make a beautiful and delicious cake or cupcake topper.

If you need a last minute treat for Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, I recommend giving these a try.  I definitely will be making them again!

Chocolate Pretzel Trees Recipe

Ingredients:
1 1b package of Green Candy Melts
15 pretzel sticks
sprinkles

Directions:
1.  Simmer water in a pot over the stove. While the water is simmering, arrange pretzel sticks a few inches apartment on parchment (or wax) paper.
2.  Place a heat proof bowl over the simmering water.
3.  Pour bag of candy melts into the bowl.
4.  Stir until the candy has melted.
5.  Take a large ziplock baggie and snip a hole in one corner.  Pour melted chocolate in.  Careful, the chocolate is a little warm!
6.  Drizzle chocolate in a zig-zag motion over the pretzel stick to look like a tree.
7.  Decorate the trees with sprinkles.
8.  Allow chocolate to harden before you move them, stack them, etc.  I let mine harden over night.
9.  Enjoy!

Yield:  Approximately 15 chocolate pretzel trees
